In September of 2002, television personality Jimmy Kimmel, producer Doug DeLuca, restaurateur Frankie Competelli and some of Los Angeles’ most prominent Italian-American citizens, got together and produced the first annual Precious Cheese Feast of San Gennaro, Los Angeles, presented by Ralphs. Now in its’ sixth year, the event will take place September 28-30, 2007 and is being hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla. The Feast offers three days of enjoyment for the entire family. Prima Notte, the opening night gala that raises funds for underprivileged children in Los Angeles, will take place on September 27th.
Just like the 80-year old New York City tradition, the 2007 Precious Cheese Feast of San Gennaro, Los Angeles, presented by Ralphs will celebrate Italian culture, food and entertainment, featuring live music, street performers, strolling musicians, a kid’s corner, rides and games. In addition to wine from local wineries and food from some of Los Angeles' best Italian restaurants, guests will be invited to learn recipes at the cooking stage and play bocce ball and bingo with some of Hollywood's Italian-American celebrities and much more!
The mission of The San Gennaro Foundation is to uphold the principles that were established by St. Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples, Italy who worked tirelessly to help people in need. In addition to raising necessary funds, the group seeks to perpetuate cultural identity and solidarity within the Italian-American community and to propagate unity and cooperation among Italian Americans. All events put on by the Foundation are intended to embody the attributes of generosity and goodwill that define the Italian spirit.
